Buying and selling FAQs
What's the first step to buying a home in Auckland?
Talk to a bank or mortgage adviser about pre-approval so you know your budget, and check whether you can use KiwiSaver towards your deposit. Then start looking, and line up a property lawyer before you make an offer.
What checks should I do before buying?
Common checks include a LIM report from Auckland Council, a builder's report, a review of the title, and body corporate records for unit titles. Your lawyer can advise which conditions to include in your offer.
What is a sale and purchase agreement?
It's the contract between buyer and seller, setting out the price, deposit, conditions and settlement date. Both buyers and sellers should get legal advice before signing.
Where can I find independent information?
The government-backed settled.govt.nz site has independent guides for buyers and sellers in New Zealand.
